A Journey with the Sixth-Gen Mustang and the Development of Our GTD Style Widebody Kit

by Tom Gill 02 Oct 2024

Today I want to take you through something that’s been an important part of our work for a long time. The sixth-generation Ford Mustang has been a key player in shaping the direction of our business and the products we’ve developed over the years.

If you visit our factory, you’ll notice a sign that highlights one of our proudest achievements: the second-generation Mustang body kit. This kit represents a lot of hard work and growth for us as a company. Over time, we’ve produced several kits for the sixth-gen Mustang, adapting to the car’s design while respecting its classic roots.

Now that Ford is preparing to release a new generation of the Mustang, we started thinking about what would happen to the sixth-gen. Would it be left behind as the new model took over? That’s when the idea came to us: what if we could take elements from the new model and apply them to the older generation? That way, loyal owners of the sixth-gen Mustang could continue to enjoy their cars, updated with a fresh new look.

This thought set us off on a new project: designing an entirely new line of parts and accessories specifically for the sixth-gen Mustang. We didn’t want this car to be forgotten, so we committed to bringing something new to the table, and that's how the GTD style widebody kit came into being.

We’ve been developing this GTD style widebody kit for the Ford Mustang S550 (S550.1 and S550.2 models). The process has been quite detailed, starting with 3D printing to ensure that the kit fits the car as precisely as possible. Every part, from the fenders to the bumpers, is printed based on 1:1 data from the Mustang itself. This means that all the mounting points and cutouts for the tyres have been accurately replicated.

We’ve made some changes to how our widebody kit works compared to others on the market. Typically, you’d need to cut the car’s original front fenders to fit the new wider ones, but we wanted to make installation easier. Our kit completely replaces the front fender, so you don’t need to cut the original. For the rear fender, though, cutting is still required to allow space for the wider wheels and suspension travel that come with the conversion.

The design process hasn’t been rushed. We’ve spent a lot of time test-fitting each part to make sure everything aligns perfectly with the car’s body. Now that we’re confident in the fit, the next step is production. The kit will be made available in FRP (fiberglass) as standard, but for those who want something more premium, there’s the option to upgrade certain parts to carbon fibre.

It’s been a long process, but we’re excited to be nearing the finish line with this GTD style widebody kit. If you’re interested or have any questions, feel free to reach out. Below, you can see a preview of the kit we’ve been working on.
