Material Infomation
Our parts are handmade, made to order aftermarket components. Like all quality aftermarket parts, they carry natural characteristics that come from how the materials are made and finished. These characteristics are completely normal, they are not faults or defects, and they are expected as part of the preparation and fitting process. Please read this before ordering so you know what to expect.
Every one of our parts is designed to be prepared, test fitted and installed by a qualified professional. We strongly recommend test fitting before any painting, wrapping or final finishing. Minor adjustment, sanding, alignment and preparation are a normal part of fitting aftermarket parts and should be expected.
Carbon Fibre Types
We supply carbon fibre parts in two constructions:
- Dry carbon fibre, also known as prepreg carbon. These are the same thing. The material is pre impregnated with resin and cured under heat and pressure. Prepreg carbon is lighter and stronger than wet laid carbon, for a light, premium, high quality part.
- High temperature wet laid carbon. A strong, high quality carbon construction laid and cured under heat, offered as a more cost effective option. Some join lines in the carbon may appear on complex shapes.
Please note that on prepreg carbon bonnets there will be a join line down the centre of the panel. Prepreg carbon sheets are only produced in certain sizes, so a large panel such as a bonnet is made from more than one sheet, which leaves a visible join in the middle. This is normal and expected on prepreg bonnets and is not a defect.
Natural characteristics of carbon parts include:
- The weave pattern can vary slightly across a part and between parts. Small variations in weave direction, alignment or overlap at edges and complex curves are normal for hand laid carbon.
- A clear coat is applied over the weave. Very small pinholes, tiny specks or minor surface points can occur in the clear and can be polished or corrected by a professional detailer or body shop.
- Carbon should be protected from prolonged UV exposure and cared for like any clear coated finish, as it will weather over time if left exposed.
Finishes And Options
By default, our carbon parts are supplied in a gloss finish. The following finish options are available at an additional cost on top of the base price:
- Gloss carbon: standard finish, included as default.
- Matte carbon: additional 10%.
- Forged carbon: additional 20%.
- Matte forged carbon: additional 25%.
Forged carbon has a random marbled pattern. No two parts are identical, and the pattern, flow and density will differ from piece to piece and from any photographs shown. This is the nature of the material and is part of its appeal.
FRP Or Fibreglass
- FRP (Fibre Reinforced Polymer) parts are supplied primed or in gel coat and are always intended to be prepared and painted before use. They are not a finished product as delivered.
- Natural resin characteristics such as minor surface waviness, small imperfections, light pinholes or slight contour variation are normal and are easily addressed by a professional body shop during preparation and painting.
- Some sanding, filling and prep work is a standard and expected part of fitting FRP parts. This is normal bodywork preparation, not a defect.
PP Or Plastic Parts
- PP (Polypropylene) parts, such as some bumpers and lips, are flexible by design. This flexibility is intentional and helps with fitment and durability.
- PP requires a plastic primer or adhesion promoter before painting. Skipping this step can cause paint adhesion problems, which are not covered by us.
Widebody Kits
- Widebody kits require cutting and modification of the vehicle's front and rear quarter panels so that the wider arches and wider wheels can be fitted.
- This is permanent bodywork that must be carried out by a qualified professional. Cutting the quarter panels is a normal and necessary part of installing a widebody kit, and it cannot be avoided. Please make sure you understand this before ordering a widebody kit.
Fitment And Adjustment
- Aftermarket parts are not factory panels. Slight variances from original equipment tolerances are normal, and minor trimming, adjustment, drilling or alignment during professional fitting should be expected.
- Always test fit the part before painting or finishing. Once a part has been painted, wrapped, trimmed, bonded or otherwise modified, it is considered accepted and cannot be returned.
Handling, Protection And Storage
- Parts may arrive with a light protective wax, film or release agent residue from manufacturing. This is normal and cleans off easily during preparation.
- Store parts flat, supported and out of direct sunlight until they are fitted. Composite parts can flex or distort if stored badly or left leaning under their own weight.
All of the above are normal characteristics of high quality handmade composite parts and are not grounds for a refund.
